Introducing our Cheongsam Wedding Gowns

June 13, 2015

Here at The Wedding Boutique we are always thinking about our different brides and their needs for various types of weddings. In the last few years we have noticed that quite a few of our brides with an Asian background have asked about whether we have gowns for their Tea Ceremony. We finally decided to offer a range of modern Chinese style Cheongsam dresses!

Originally when Chinese brides got married, they wore a two-piece Qun Kwa which was a loose fitting jacket and skirt in red silk and embroidered with colourful threads including gold and silver, pearls and also sequin embellishments. The striking red colour is a symbol of good luck, happiness and longevity. Traditionally the bride's look was finished with headpieces and a silk red coloured veil to cover the face and the groom was only allowed to see the bride until after the wedding.

Nowadays many brides and grooms that have a South East Asian background may want to continue these traditions on their wedding day. Cheongsam wedding gowns have been a popular option for brides to wear for their Tea Ceremony as it is a great flattering shape as opposed to the loose jacket, and is a traditional Chinese dress shape. Cheongsam wedding gowns range from gold, silver and most predominantly red silks and laces.

We've selected the gowns with a flattering shape in mostly red coloured lace and some beautiful beaded and embellished options. Cheongsam gowns are distinctive in the way that they have a high neck, a mandarin collar and are fitted down the length of the body.
